GAMES: Ones that bring us together!

Games are an integral and important part of our lives. Therefore, like many things we’ll be on the lookout for entertainment that can bring unique aspects to our lives.

Modern and popular entertainment tends to “isolate” us from human to human interaction. Cell phones being one of the biggest culprits, followed by the infamous videogames, computers and tablets. Nowadays, we can even also access games through our televisions. This is really an era of games.

Therefore, with this realization that digital entertainment can be consuming, we also want to return to some old traditions. These are games that we’ll share that unites us as friends and families. Some of the best (and fun) games are ones that we make up ourselves and play right at home!

Electronic Games

We’ll start with the most popular form of games. Videogames. From cell phones, tablets, computers… you name your device and it will have a videogame available. Gaming can get a bad rap, and a bit unfairly (go outside kids!).

However, most modern (more complex) videogames require some level of skill and thought to play them. Many videogames allow you to design your own game within them, sparking creativity. Some videogames are worthy of art and music awards! Also, videogames are again evolving. They are a vessel to online social interaction.

Online gaming can be a way to meet with family, friends, or make new friends. Videogames can actually help tie us back together Therefore, they are on our list here, and we’ll keep on the search for videogames that are fun, and help us maintain our human bonds.

World of Warcraft

We’re currently highlighting this special game as it’s been around for over a decade and counting. World of Warcraft, like the name states is an online world of it’s own. Full of adventure, action and discovery. Award winning. Also, playable by friends and family. The one drawback is it is a computer game, which may not be accessible to all (everyone must have their own computer).

Homemade

We’ll be adding some unique homemade games for your enjoyment! Until we can grow this list, here’s one for now: Hotwheel Crunchy Roll.

Hotwheel Cruncy Roll

With some creativity this is an amazing fun and versatile game. Here’s what you’ll need:

  1. Toilet paper rolls. Just the cardboard tubes, not actual toilet paper on the roll! This may take some time, but once you use up your toilet paper, save the roll. We recommend at least 10. Paper towel rolls – save them too!
  2. Hotwheel, Matchbox, or similar toy on four wheels that’s small and sturdy.
  3. A flat “line” such as a slender pole, ruler, or tape (to make a line to stand behind).

How to play:

Set upright your toilet paper rolls (like bowling pins) on a flat open surface (like your living room). The roles can be in any formation (and stacked if you would like). Set your “line” about 5 to 10 feet away. The further away the more challenging the game will be.

Now get your cars ready. Each player needs at least one car to play. If you have more cars then each player gets an even number of cars. Each player takes turns standing behind the line and rolling the car, aiming to crash into and knock the toilet paper roles down! Cars can also be aimed strategically to block other player’s cars, or crash into other player’s cars. However, to win a player has to knock down more toilet paper roles than the other players! The game ends when all toilet paper rolls are knocked down!

There’s a lot you can play with toilet paper rolls. Great for building things or knocking down. We’ve used them for target practice in one form or another! Enjoy!
